Your Catholic Week in Review (Pro-Choice "Catholics Edition!)
Last night, while pro-life Catholics went to Mass at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, a small band of self-professed “Catholics” sacrilegiously desecrated the Basilica by projecting the message “PRO-CHOICE CATHOLICS YOU ARE NOT ALONE” on the façade of the Church.
The message rightfully drew sharp rebukes from Catholics all over social media. Abp. Cordileone called it a “desecration” and “diabolical”, saying, “The attempted desecration is enormous. Diabolical. Mother Mary, pray for them, now and at the hour of death. Amen."
Bp. Strickland called it an “atrocity”, writing, “If this is real it is an atrocity. Support of murder projected on the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception??? I pray that it is a fake photo photoshopped for evil purposes. If it is real it is horrible & even faking it is evil.”
This sacrilegious stunt most certainly wounds Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart and requires reparations. But once the outrage from the initial shock of this event subsided, I started thinking about the message itself, “you are not alone.”
It is right for our spiritual leaders to be angered by what was done, and to call for prayers and penances because of it … but the fact of the matter is that the message itself is not incorrect.
Today marks 49 years since industrialized abortion was enshrined as a “right” in the United States. That’s 49 years of the willful slaughter of innocent children in the womb. That’s at least 62 million babies murdered in the most cruel and horrific manner. It is the 49th year of the greatest ongoing holocaust in human history. And this tragedy will only get worse so long as those who took vows before God to tend and defend the flock given to his care feed the wolves who seek to prey upon the sheep. I’m talking about the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
I have personally investigated and reported on the pro-abortion activities of organizations receiving funding from the USCCB for over a decade, and while a few individual good bishops have decided to no longer take up certain collections, the USCCB on the whole is still financing the Culture of Death.
In 2019 alone, hundreds of thousands of Catholic dollars went to pro-abortion activities.
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the “anti-poverty program of the USCCB,” gave $60,000 to the Ostara Initiative, whose leaders publicly admitted to helping girls in prison obtain abortions.
But it’s not just the CCHD. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is currently doing the US Government’s bidding by implementing population control programs created by PEPFAR and USAID that spread abortifacient contraception to the poor and vulnerable in Africa.
In 2020, we published a series of reports that prove through original source documents – INCLUDING DOCUMENTS PRODUCED BY CRS ITSELF – that CRS is implementing contraception-promoting programs and introducing young girls to organizations that distribute contraception and promote illegal abortions.
We also proved that CRS created a health referral network in Nigeria with several pro-abortion organizations, including a Partner of Planned Parenthood who was distributing contraception in the same centers where it was partnering with CRS.
In Cameroon, CRS created another health referral network that included other pro-abortion groups, but in this instance, they were purposely sending young girls to an organization called RENATA, where they could obtain “comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services (including condoms).” RENATA, in one of its own documents, admitted that some of the girls they see “were given ‘morning-after’ pills and others received support in bringing their pregnancy to early and safe termination, usually with the cooperation of the boy or man involved. In a few instances, the entire association had supported girls in getting safe abortions and even in laying charges against rapists.”
What Catholics for Choice did by projecting their pro-abortion messages on the façade of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception was an abomination. But the sad reality is that their message was not wrong. Until such time as the Catholic bishops of the United States put an end to their financial support for organizations that are directly and perpetually attacking the Culture of Life, the enemies of the Cross of Christ will continue to have the upper hand. The time has come for our spiritual leaders to prostrate themselves as Moses did, offering themselves to Him for the sake of us all, saying:
“I beseech thee: this people hath sinned a heinous sin, and they have made to themselves gods of gold: either forgive them this trespass, or if thou do not, strike me out of the book that thou hast written.” The CCHD STILL has not released its most recent grants list. As faithful Catholics, they owe it to you to show you what they are doing with Catholic funds. I know that many of you sent in emails from the list we provided at the end of our last newsletter. Please do so again, and also flood their phone lines with phone calls, asking where the list is, why it hasn’t been published, and when it will be made available.
Don’t let them get away with hiding their activities!
